 3M ESPE Lava C.O.S. Blog: What’s New in Lava C.O.S. 2.0

We have made several changes in Lava C.O.S. 2.0 that improve both scanning and the process of assessing your scans. These enhancements will increase your confidence in the accuracy and completeness of your scans and the resulting models.

And there will be less scanning chair time for you and your patient.

Scan Review

The process of reviewing a scan is faster and easier  in version 2.0. You’ll feel more confident  about the quality of your scans while your patient is still in the chair.

With this latest version of the software, you can stop the scan at any time and review it instantly. It’s not even necessary to take the wand out of the patient’s mouth.

Scan Review Screen

You’ll know immediately if the scan is good or if it needs to be completed or altered in some way to make it a good scan. Specifically, you can:

  • Continue Scanning to add coverage

  • Accept the scan

  • Remove the Completion Arrows that identify incomplete scan areas

  • Go straight to the Prep Selection screen

  • Delete the scan and start over

Completion Arrows

Version 2.0 of the Lava C.O.S. has a new tool to help you evaluate your scan quality. The Completion Arrows feature lets you know right away—before the case is sent to the lab—whether you have followed the scan path with enough accuracy to proceed. If the scan path needs correction, this tool shows you where to fix it.

Completion Arrows

To improve your scan and remove the completion arrows, resume scanning in the area of the arrow from the lingual to facial surface. The next time you review that scan, the arrow should be gone.

Note: You can send your scan to the lab with completion arrows present, but, because it’s not the optimal representation of the area scanned, it may result in an inaccurate restoration.
